Activity
Local pilot
The pilot introduced young participants to the project’s interactive board game and Finance is Civic guide. Its purpose was to test how well the materials worked in a real youth-learning environment and to collect feedback for their final development.
An interactive approach to financial education
The board game placed participants in situations involving income, spending, saving, borrowing and unexpected financial events. Instead of receiving information through a traditional presentation, participants had to make decisions and respond to their consequences.

The Finance is Civic guide supported the discussions and helped facilitators connect personal financial decisions to community life and active citizenship.
Learning and evaluation
Participants completed questionnaires before and after the pilot. These were designed to measure changes in financial knowledge, confidence in managing money, understanding of the connection between money and society, and interest in civic and community participation.
The evaluation also collected feedback on the board game itself, including its clarity, pace, accessibility and relevance. Facilitators documented their observations throughout the activity, paying particular attention to participation within the group, moments of understanding and areas requiring further explanation.

Why piloting matters
Educational materials may appear clear during development but work differently once they are used by a real group. The Nürnberg pilot allowed Highlights e.V. to observe how participants interpreted the game, which situations generated meaningful discussion and where adjustments were needed.
From local testing to European learning
The German findings form part of a wider pilot process across Germany, Italy and Portugal. Results from all three countries will be combined to refine the final board game and guide. This ensures that the final materials are informed by practical experience and different national perspectives.
